Peter Hays Professor of English

Professor Hays joined the faculty in 1966 after teaching at Ohio State University. He has also taught at Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz, Germany, and guest lectured at Purdue. His areas of interest are twentieth-century American literature, especially the period of high modernism, and drama. Currently a reader for the Hemingway Review and a reviewer for American Literature, he has also been a member of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society Board, the Edith Wharton Society Board and the Ernest Hemingway Foundation.

Teaching Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises by Peter Hays Teaching Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises is a compilation of essays by fifteen experienced teachers of Hemingway, high school, college, and university. These teachers show how they teach Hemingway's first major novel: approaches, study questions, syllabi, paper topics, as well as thoughtful essays analyzing the novel in the most contemporary of manners.
