PhD Cambridge, 1975 Professor Dale joined the UC Davis faculty in 1980. Before coming to Davis, he taught at Harvard University (1974-1980). His research interests are in the relations between British literature, literary theory, and philosophy in the nineteenth century. He is currently working on a book on the function of social theory in late nineteenth-century Britain. In addition to introductory courses, he teaches classes at the upper-division level in Romantic and Victorian literature and in British fiction since 1980. At the graduate level he teaches. Professor Dale has also spent a good deal of time working in university administration. He has been an assistant dean at Harvard, chair of the English Department at Davis, and dean/vice provost of Undergraduate Studies at Davis.
