Mardena Creek-Michelson

Dr. Creek-Michelson received her B.A. in English from the University of Illinois and her M.A. and Ph.D. in English, both from Ball State University. She has been a lecturer with a joint appointment in the UC Davis English Department and the Campus Writing Center for the past nine years. Before coming to Davis, she taught at both Southern Illinois University and the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Creek-Michelson's teaching interests are advanced composition, writing across the curriculum, writing in graduate school, composition theory and history, Twentieth-Century American literature, and Vietnam War literature. Her current research focuses on writing in the workplace. She is in the process of developing a new internship adjunct writing class for the Campus Writing Center.

  • Director of Composition, English Department, Fall 1998 to present.
  • Professional Development Leave, Fall 1995, to investigate the needs of graduate writers.
  • Developed graduate writing seminar, "Demystifying the Dissertation: A Graduate Seminar for Students Across the Disciplines," that she has taught for the past two years.
  • Developed an extensive bibliography highlighting the most useful of the resources from the graduate seminar. All materials are included in her Dissertation Help Materials
