M.A., San Francisco State University, 1978
Mary Bly has a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in English with specializations in English as a Second Language and The Teaching of Writing. Before coming to UC Davis in 1981, she taught at San Francisco State University, College of San Mateo, and as a writing and ESL consultant to private industry. At UC Davis, Ms. Bly served for eight years as the Assistant Director of Composition and coordinated the English Composition Exam. In addition to her on-campus duties, she is on the national committee of the Test of English as a Foreign Language and participates as a room leader for the Systemwide Subject A Exam. Her fields of interest include gender and language, humor (particularly twentieth century humor by women), and writing under pressure. She has produced a series of videotapes on basic writing and teacher training, and her humor book Dogs are Better than Cats was published by Doubleday in 1985. Email: mebly@ucdavis.edu |
